It summarizes his study with some dynamic scans of the lens for different spectrometer current The figures show the focusing effects, spatial and energy distribution at three points (A, B and C) of the e+ transportation system. . (A: At the entrance of spectrometer, B: At the exit of spectrometer , C: At the reconversion target)

(Rick's Message: .... FFTB Startup Checklist for the E-166 experiment scheduled for Sep 6-Oct 3, 2005. Please let me know if there are any errors or omissions. Note that the magnet configs are for the 46.6Gev beam established during the last test, but this can be scaled to the actual energy the linac produces.)
I suspect that the weekly meetings of August 17 and 24 will be held at Snowmass. Of particular interest might be the Sources Working Group.

SLAC employees and Users need to read a variety of safety documents, and acknowledge that they have done so; and, among other things,
- take another Electrical Safety Class, ES&H Course 239, ( Schedule and Info)
- complete a Job Hazard Analysis and Mitigation (JHAM) study & form.

Due to an accident in Sector 20 of the Linac, a Safety-Standdown has been ordered;
(accelerators off, no work on hot circuits >50V or > 10 J, no lock/tag out work, no hoisting/rigging);

Notice, that the mailing lists don't do well with attachments;
for short messages, it is better to copy them as text into the body of your message; even many tables can be easily read as text files;

The undulator had arrived from Cornell, and Alexander and John took first measurements of the inner aperture.

Achim Weidemann submitted a ~8-page review of E-166 to ICHEP04 the 32nd International Conference on High Energy Physics, Beijing, China, 16-22 August 2004, entitled Polarized Positrons at a Future Linear Collider and the Final Focus Test Beam, SLAC-PUB-10581, July 2004 [ ps 1.3MB | pdf 311 kB ]
to go with a poster [ Power Point, 2.5 MB, 8 by 16 inches (print at 290% magnification on 24x48 paper)] shown there.
Achim also gave a talk at the 5th Rencontres du Vietnam - Particle Physics and Astrophysics conference (Hanoi, VN, 5-11 August 2004) ( in the Physics at Future Accelerators Parallel Session) [Powerpoint, 2.7 MB] . The issue here is how much beam we can run with out violating beam containment. Presumably 3x10^9 at 1Hz is okay. Enough beam to light up the diagnostics but likely not enough rate to keep the feedbacks on in the FFTB. It is possible that we can run beam to the BSY at 10 Hz and to FFTB at 1 Hz and then the upstream stabilization is active. Please make comments. It is time to start developing the beam task lists so we can assemble a run plan with realistic time estimates

(03-Mar-2004) From Kirk: Alexander's latest AutoCAD Mechanical Desktop drawing of the E-166 positron spectrometer magnets is available from Kirk's Web site as a Zip, 4.2 MB file (or as dwg, 8.4 MB (AutoCAD Mech Desttop drawing) file, but the latter seems to be read-protected).
The big change is the combination of the two 90 deg bend magnets into a single structure, so that the magnetic flux of one magnet is "returned" through the other.

This is Rev, 2 of the goals and success definition for the E-166 background tests. I have incorporated Peter's and Vahag's estimate for the signal on the CsI; up dated the text to reflect the 2 aerogel counters; and perked up the picture, in particular the stylized layout of the shielding. It is closer to what we should actually have. Please have a look, check the numbers, and send comments. This is becoming a working document in so far as it is guiding our planning for E166 background hardware.
