Linac RF System Overview and Reference

--Site Introduction and Chart Legends--

About this website:

This documentation is intended as a resource and reference for the linac RF system.  It is written primarily for use by MCC operators.  Please contact Robin with comments, questions, or corrections.

Introduction to site content:

Legend

A series of flow charts is used to describe the linac RF system.  To navitage between pages, use the links at the very top of each page.  The Sector Pair Overview page diagrams the RF-related elements of a typical sector pair, which include one Subbooster System and eight Klystron Systems per sector.  A Subbooster System in the context of this site consists of all hardware elements relevant to the RF system that are associated with a subbooster in the linac, including control system components and RF power supplies, and a few additional hardware elements that occur exactly once per sector (e.g. a micro).  A Klystron System is considered to be all relevant hardware associated with each of the eight klystrons in a typical sector.

Every item in the flow charts is linked to a description in the Definitions page, that describes the device's physical location, functions, and purposes.

The legend at left shows the color coding of the flow charts.  Blue shades are used for devices and signals that carry the 2856 MHz accelerating RF.  Brown represents hardware that sends and/or receives signals to and from the control system (such as CAMAC modules, micros, and certain chassis).  Green is used for timing system hardware and signals, which is considered to be anything used exclusively or primarily for timing purposes, regardless of signal frequency.  Shades of orange represent power supplies.

Camac Diagram Legend

The CAMAC page shows the locations of the four typical CAMAC crates in the klystron gallery of a linac sector, and their standard contents.  This diagram may be useful to operators who wish to locate a standard CAMAC module in the klystron gallery, without scanning through pages of CAMDMP.  The legend to the left of this paragraph explains the symbols used in the CAMAC diagram, where n is a sector number from 0 to 30, x is a klystron station number from 1 to 8, and y is a CAMAC crate number from 1 to 4.
