Install main application

The basic idea for running the application is to install it on your local drive using the Xweb interface. It requires about 750 MB of disk space.

Log on with local system administrator privileges.
Begin by going to the Xweb page: xweb.slac.stanford.edu.
Find the OrCAD 16.0 entry and click on "Click to Install", to the right.
Agree to the license requirements on the next screen.
On the following page, click on Step 1 "Install app" near the top of the page.
On the next "File Download" page, you can choose either "Run" or "Save". The first choice might be easiest. It will download the installation files and then automatically proceed to install the application. The "Save" option only downloads the installation files. You would then have to go to the location where you saved the downloaded files and doubleclick on the *.exe file, which would initiate the install.
After the download phase has completed, a "Security Warning" prompts you whether you want continue and "Run" the (installation program). Click on "Run".
The next (automatic) phase involves unzipping the downloaded files, which takes several minutes, often with no window present to indicate what is happening.
Once the vendor installation program finally appears, on the "License Agreement" screen, click on 'Yes' to agree to the license terms.
On the "Release OrCAD 16.0 Setup" screen, skipping the licensing options, select "Install Products".
On the "License Manager Communication" screen, skipping the first option at the top, fill in the info for the three redundant license servers (which may already be the default displayed):

The next window may be the "User Information" screen, in which your enter the customary information.
After the following confirmation window, in the next "Control File Location" window, Browse to Folder:
V:\CAE\OrCAD\16.0
and select the "controlfile.txt" there.
On the "Select Products" screen, keep at most the three components for which we have licenses: Capture, Pspice and Unison PCB (limited availability). You will get problems later if you select Pspice A/D, or Capture CIS. In the same window, Browse to the local Folder where you want the products to be installed.
On the "Working Directory" screen, Browse to the local Folder where you plan to store your working design files.
A pop-up window may appear asking whether you want to install the new IntelliCAD application. There is no harm in doing so.
For the "Select Program Folder" entry, the suggested default, "OrCAD 16.0" seems good.
After clicking through the following Installation Summary window, the installation proceeds.
Near the end of the installation process, several menu prompts appear for dealing with file types that are currently registered to other applications. This is only for being able to double-click on a Pspice-related file and have the right application invoked. It doesn't affect anything internal to Pspice-related executables and how they function. So it should be safe enough to ignore all these prompts, since resetting things may interfere with other applications.
You are then prompted whether you want to install the Adobe Acrobat reader. If you (presumably) already have it on your computer, you shouldn't need to install again.
The next pop-up message indicates that the installation program is configuring your environment. My experience is that this process takes quite a while, perhaps 2 minutes, but it does eventually end.
Near the end of the installation, a window may appear titled "Licensed Products Not Installed", which you can ignore and continue.
You can optionally inspect the environment variables that were set during the installation, or create these variables if they have to be re-created later, for any reason.
This completes the installation. If you haven't already done so, set up the license environment, as described in the next section. It is likely that when you first invoke the application, you will immediately get an error message. Read below
how to fix this runtime error

License setup

Go to area: Start/Settings/Control panel
Double-click the Systems Folder and select tab 'environment', or, for Windows XP, 'Advanced', then 'environment'.
There should be variable CDS_LIC_FILE, preferably as a system variable, set to value:
27010@sunlics1;27010@sunlics2;27010@sunlics3
There should be variable CDSROOT, set to your local, top-level, OrCAD
After completion of the installation, there should then be a Program Folder entry for OrCAD 16.0, which includes Pspice and Capture.
You can optionally inspect the environment variables that were set during the installation, or create these variables if they have to be re-created later, for any reason.

This completes the client PC installation process.

Fix initial runtime error

Depending on how your PC is configured, you may get an initial error when calling any of the OrCAD products. The error message will report that a particular DLL file could not be found. To fix this problem, do the following, after exiting the application completely:
Copy file (top-level OrCAD install Folder)\tools\bin\RWUXThemeS.dll to Folder C:\WINNT\system32, saving any existing copy of that file that may already be in the latter Folder.
That should fix the problem. On my PC, it took a very long time, perhaps two minutes, for a product such as 'Capture' to come up.

Install update ISR2

Update "ISR2" requires an existing installation of OrCAD 16.0. To install ISR2, go to the Xweb entry for OrCAD 16.0, which you may still have open and select "Step 2": "Update ISR2".
You may need to once again agree to the usual license conditions, before reaching the next page on which you again select Step 2 "Update ISR2".
On the next "File Download" page, you can choose either "Run" or "Save". The first choice might be easiest. You would then have to go to the location where you saved the downloaded files and doubleclick on the *.exe file, which would initiate the install.

On the following "License Agreement" screen, click on 'Yes' to agree to the license terms.
On the following "Choose Destination Location" screen, the default path displayed should actually be the correct location of your existing installation of OrCAD 16.0. If not, you can Browse your way there and click on 'Next'.
Following the "Installation Summary" page, the update installation proceeds silently. Once completed, the "Update Complete" window pops us, in which you can click on 'Finish'.
