SLAC Central Linux Facilities

In broad terms, SLAC Central Linux facilities consist of 'public' SLAC unix servers (for those who meet the guidelines for SLAC Unix accounts) and the unix 'batch' servers.

SLAC Central Linux facilities that are available to you:

Home Directory (assigned to you when you get a SLAC account)

/afs/slac.stanford.edu/u/gl/<username>

Tip: To check how much space is allocated to your Home Directory, login and at the prompt. enter: fs listquota

Batch Farm

Should the need arise, you can also use the batch servers. Be aware, however, that the batch servers have priority users whose jobs may preempt those of users assigned lower priorities.

User Work Space (1 GB is assigned when you apply for write access to nfs space.)

To access this space, use the following path:

/afs/slac/g/glast/users/<username>

Note: This path provides a permanent symbolic link to your space, even though the underlying nfs location may change as disks fill up. Use of the /afs path will make such changes transparent.

Write access. Since this space is charged per user, only the specified user has write access to his/her directory.

Web Access. To browse this space and download files, go to Fermi LAT Users Disk Browser.

If you have a problem (e.g., you need to increase your quota, or you are an existing user and do not have a directory on the new disk), contact Richard Dubois or Tom Glanzman.

New Directories. New directories require intervention by unix-admin.

Group Work Space

Web Access. All collaboration members have web access to the work space of the groups listed in the Fermi LAT Groups Disk Browser, enabling you to browse and download files.

Write Access. Members of a work group who require write access to their group's work space should contact the group's Disk Czar. (See Group Work Space.)
