A precision measurement of the g_2^p structure function for the proton

The experiment E155X at SLAC measured the spin structure function g_2^p
using deep inelastic scattering at 29.2 and 32.3 GeV. Longitudinally 
polarized (85%) electrons were incident on a solid ammonia target
with an average polarization of 75%. Large data sets were accumulated
using three independent spectrometers covering a kinematic range
of 0.02<x<0.9 and a momentum transfer range of 1<Q^2<20.
Errors on the new measurement of g_2^p are more than three times smaller 
than the previously existing world data set enabling us to
make a clear distinction between various predictions for g_2^p.
