ATLAS Workshop/Visitor Information

SLAC Site General Information

Access to SLAC

All visitors are required to just show a valid photo ID (e.g. passport, driver license) in order to enter the Laboratory. Prior arrangement by your ATLAS host for site entry can help ease the checking at the gate. Visitors stay at the Guest House will be issued a guest card to further ease the access check. The SLAC Main Gate is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

If you are locked out of any building during off hours, you can always to go the main gate guard house, or call (650)-926-2551, to ask security guards to open building doors.

  • Local UNIX computing at SLAC for visitors with longer stay at SLAC
Printing

For printing files during the workshop, the general instruction for printing from the wireless network can be found at http://www.slac.stanford.edu/comp/service/printing/ with separate instructions for UNIX and Windows. This may be now restrcted to be inside the firewall only for those with SLAC computing account. Some selectd printer near the most frequent meeting locations:

Miscellaneous Practical Information

The Stanford Guest House is located on SLAC site (building #49). It is the first building on the left after turning left from the the guard gate. Parking in front of the Guest House is designated for the registered guests. There is complimentary pastry breakfast during the weekend.

Parking at SLAC is in general free for all, except the disabled space and space labelled Government Vehicles only. When parking becomes crowded near the building you are working in, the Parking Lot G (see map below at grid 28D) at south west corner of Loop Road always has empty spaces.

There is a cash ATM in lobby of the Guest House (building #49) and another ATM on the 2nd floor of SUSB (#53) just outside cafeteria.

The SLAC cafetera (SLACafe) is located on the 2nd floor of the new Science User Support Building (#53) Cafeteria. It is open for breakfast and lunch on week days. Another simple on site option is the Starbucks kiosk near the Guest House open week days 6:00am-6:00pm. There are not many very close local lunch places, but some are within walking distance:

If you have a car, then many local dining options are available. Some selected lunch places places can be found on this marked lunch map. Many other dining places are on the Local Dining and Drinking page (some might be not up to date).
