SLAC Site Information

Access to SLAC

All visitors are required to show a valid photo ID (e.g. passport, driver license) in order to enter the Laboratory, but there is no need for any prior hosting arrangements. The SLAC Main Gate is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

To reach the Stanford Guest House, turn left after the guard gate and go to the first building on the left side of the road. Parking is available for registered guests.

To reach the Kavli Auditorium (Building 51), turn right after the guard gate. Parking is available in a visitor lot immediately to the right of the gate. The Kavli Auditorium on the opposite side of the street, directly across from the parking lot. If you are locked out of any building during off hours, you can always to go the main gate guard house to ask security guards to open building doors.

Computing Access
  • Local UNIX computing at SLAC
  • SLAC wireless network is available from most buildings at SLAC including the Kavli Auditorium and the Guest house. It runs on the Visitor Netowrk outside the firewall so that only has a very simple one time initial web registration form which will automatically appear in your web browser current page upon seeing your laptop on the network the first time. Once registered, the registration will continue to be valid unless your laptop is absent from SLAC for several weeks.
Printing

For printing files during the workshop, the general instruction for printing from the wireless network can be found at http://www.slac.stanford.edu/comp/service/printing/ with separate instructions for UNIX and Windows.

A pair of printers are located on the 2nd floor of Kavli building in the middle cubicle area. The printer queue names are KI2BW and KI2CO for B/W and color printing respectively.

Weather
