The capability to predict the reliability characteristics of an accelerator in the future projects is important for many reasons. However, since the accelerator is a repairable system, because of the underlying complexity, predictions of reliability and availability for such a system will require numerical simulations. In order to develop credible accelerator reliability simulations, one has to analyze the random processes observed in operating systems. This paper summarizes the conclusions reached by means of such analyses.
