Operation and parameters of Bunch Shape Monitors, using the coherent transformation of the temporal structure of an analyzed beam into a spatial distribution of low energy secondary electrons emitted from a wire target, is influenced by the beam under study. The electromagnetic field of a bunch disturbs the trajectories and energy of the secondary electrons, resulting in degradation of phase resolution and errors of phase position measurement. This effect has been studied in quasi-static approximation. Another effect is variation of the target potential due to current in the wire target induced by the bunch and due to the wire current compensating the emission of secondary electrons. A transmission line model has been used to estimate the effect. The results of simulations of the above effects for variety of typical parameters of ion linacs are presented and discussed.
