Web Information Manager (WIM)

Under direction of the WWWCC chair, the Web Information Manager (WIM) will develop and maintain the architecture and manage the content of SLAC’s central web space. These responsibilities most notably include, but are not limited to, creating, maintaining, and managing top level SLAC home pages (SHPs). These pages include the "core pages" (defined as the Detailed Home Page and the set of pages that make up the Highlighted Home Page) as well as pages directly linked to the core pages that provide web users and authors with additional policies, procedures, and support.

Specific WIM responsibilities include: 

• Ex-officio member of the WWWCC and works closely with them to fulfill their mission and initiatives.
• Implement decisions and findings of the Report of the Ad-Hoc Committee on the SLAC Home Page(s) (see http://www.slac.stanford.edu/slac/www/wwwcc/reports/ad-hoc-report.html) and other requests of the WWWCC.
• Maintain new SHP design and administer all new requests for modifications or additions to these pages.
• Under oversight of the WWWCC, coordinate, develop, schedule, and implement plans for SHP redesign.
• Develop and manage coherent migration strategies for all redesign efforts.
• Works with the SLAC archivist to develop and implement an archival policy for the SLAC web.
• Periodically review page access statistics and generate reports, as requested by the WWWCC.
• Working closely with appropriate groups (TAG, WSCs, WWW-Tech), help select and establish use of site mapping, indexing, and metadata tools and technologies for the SLAC web.
• Assume primary responsibility for answering and archiving webmaster e-mail; develop a plan for sharing webmaster e-mail with interested or responsible parties.
• Work closely with Unix-admin and the head of The Applications Group (Wisinski) to manage URL name space as related to AFS directory space and NT server file systems.
• Promote use of required and recommended page elements on new and existing pages throughout the SLAC web.
• Develop, maintain, and promote a consistent SLAC look-and-feel throughout the SLAC central web.
• Where possible and appropriate, promote and maintain informational integrity and consistency throughout the SLAC Web.
• Server as an active member of the WWW-Tech committee.
• Work with the WSCs to identify informational gaps in the SLAC web and help develop new content.
• Work with the WSCs to identify training or resource needs and solicit help from the WWWCC to meet these needs.
