Remote Access to SLAC & Stanford Resources
If you are offsite and would like to access online journals and databases, then there are a number of ways to do so, which are explained below. Feel free to contact the SLAC Library at x2411 if you have additional questions.
Stanford Proxy ServerIn order to access certain online journals you will need to use your SUNet ID. For information about how to obtain your SUNet ID go to Stanford's SUNet ID page. If you have questions, please call x2411.For information about how to configure your browser after you have obtained a SUNet ID go to Proxy Access to Stanford-Restricted Sources. Click on Help me set up my browser and follow the directions. This option is available for PC, Mac, and Mozilla users. Note that SLAC Library has tested this option for Mozilla 1.2 on Linux, and can help with the setup for that and other UNIX browsers, even though the Stanford page does not support this option. CitrixYou can use Citrix (Windows Terminal Server) to make any machine at any place look and behave very much like a Windows desktop connected to the SLAC network. Visit Citrix @ SLAC for details and instructions.Once you are using Citrix, a web browser launched from within a Citrix session will have the same access as a browser running on a machine at SLAC. VPNFrom any Win or Mac connected to the internet you can use VPN/PPTP to create a "tunnel" that allows your remote machine to become a part of the SLAC network.VPN Instructions for Windows Users VPN gives you access to all slac-restricted pages (slaconly, etc.) that are hosted at SLAC. However, journals that you access via the web may need a special setting to be checked in the VPN setup. |
