The following pipechar was run from Glasgow to SLAC by Alan Flavell on march 29, 2001. I have to confess to having no previous experience with the 'pipechar' tool, but I quickly downloaded it in order to get some comparison figures. My only option from here that offers 100M access is to run it on a linux system (there seem to be some reservations in its web page about that...?) If this is to be believed, it seems I already hit a ~ 46M limit at the access to the local MAN. Beyond that there would appear to be congestion at the connection between the JANET backbone and its US links. This is just one shot to SLAC. Other attempts produced somewhat variable results in some places, but seemed consistent in reporting a bottleneck between the backbone and the US-GW.
