Installing to local PC drive

General Information

The basic approach is to install PADS2005 SP3 through the Xweb interface to your local disk. The application requires about 100 MB of disk space.

Installing to local PC drive

Begin by going to the Xweb application installation webpage:

In the list of applications that appears, find "PADS PowerPCB 5.0" and click on the "Click to Install" button to its right.
In the following menu, agree with the usual license agreement matters.
In the following menu, click at the top on "Install", associated with "Step 1".
On the next "File Download" page, you can choose either "Run" or "Save". The first choice might be easiest. It will download the installation files and then automatically proceed to install the application. The "Save" option only downloads the installation files. You would then have to go to the location where you saved the downloaded files and doubleclick on the *.exe file, which would initiate the install.
On the next security warning page, click again on "Run", in case that is what you chose in the previous step.
After the files have been downloaded, and sometimes following a bit of a wait with no window appearing, a window finally appears, indicating that the files are being unzipped (if you selected 'run' previously).
The first actual "Innoveda Inc" window you click on "Install PowerPCB".
In the following menu, agree with the usual license agreement matters.
In the 'Security Configuration' screen, select 'Floating License' option, keeping option 'Do not install license' unchecked.
The next screen indicates that the Setup program will attempt to communicate with the license server. Click on 'Next'.
On the 'Security Server' screen, you are prompted to enter:
Hostname: sunlics1
and Port: 27010
On the next "Choose Install Type and Destination Folder" menu, select 'Typical'. Lower down on the menu, 'Browse' to a local Folder where you would like to have the application installed, or select the default displayed. Then click on 'Next'.
On the next "Installation Settings" screen you are prompted to select from among two choices: to to preserve settings from a previous version of PowerPCB, or not. If you choose to preserve an earlier powerpcb.ini file, Browse to its location, click on 'Next'. Complete the details of which items to preserve from the earlier PowerPCB.ini file, using the following 'Configuration File Sections' screen.
In the following 'Select Program Folder' specify the name you would like. I always like to include the version number in the Program Folder name.
The next 'Start Copying Files' menu summarizes the parameters for the ensuing installation.
After the installation completes, the main installation menu again appears, where you can click on 'Exit'.
It may not hurt to check among your environment variables, to verify that variable PADS_LIC_FILE_PCB is set to: 7508@wtsdmv

This completes the installation process to the local PC drive.
