Matlab release 13 for Windows NT

General Information

It is not necessary to remove the existing setup for any earler version of Matlab. More than one version can appear, for example, in your 'Programs' menu.

Copies of the Matlab CD are on the pub X: drive, from which the application is then installed to your local machine.

This procedure requires administrator privileges on your machine.

Begin with folder:

X:\Applications\Supported\Matlab\13\CD_1.

• Double-click on the 'setup.exe' program in that folder.
  

• You are prompted to enter the so-called PLP number, which is:

  13-63368-25660-02059-55277-51207-48033-18834-07977-56000

• Go through the next few menus in the obvious way.
  

• Soon there is a prompt window asking if you would like the installer to check the MathWorks website for additional or updated products. You can choose the option you like.

• In the "Product List" menu, in the first line:
  1. Select directory where products will be installed -
  browse to the local directory where you would like Matlab to be installed. Unfortuately, it is not possible to use the obvious location: "C:\Program Files", because spaces in the path name are not allowed. This is a bug apparently to be fixed soon by MathWorks.
  

• In the "Select install options" menu 2, you can select the option you want.

• In the "Select products and/or documentation" window, 4. everything should be OK in the displayed list, so you can go ahead and click 'Next'.

• The next window prompts for the location of the license.dat file. Browse to directory X:\Applications\Supported\Matlab\13
  and select 'license_used.dat'.
  

• The install process should then commence.
  About two thirds of the way through the installation, a popup window asks whether you want certain file suffixes to be associated with Matlab. You can select 'yes' or 'no' as you prefer. I myself certainly select 'no'.

• If you selected earlier "Install products and documentation", then you will now be prompted, in the "Documentation Path" menu, to "Enter the directory from which you will install the documentation". The default displayed is the path to the CD_1 you began with. This should be replaced now with "CD_Doc", using the same path. The install process then continues.

• Although the install process does not prompt for the text to be provided for the Programs Folder entry, the default turns out to be
  "MATLAB 6.5", which refers to the version rather than the release number. You can change this label to whatever you like by hand. It is placed typically in your "All Users" Programs folder.
  A desktop shortcut with the same name is also created.

• If not already done earlier:

Set up the reference to the license file

• Log in as the local Administrator.

• Get to the area: Start/Settings/Control Panel

• Double-click on the 'System' icon.

• In the next menu, select tab 'environment', or first 'Advanced', in the case of Windows XP,

• Set System variable 'LM_LICENSE_FILE' to include an entry for the Matlab license as follows:

• If the variable is already set, but does not include the following path, add the following entry to the beginning of the list of other entries, preceded by ';', otherwise initialize the list of values with:

  '27004@sunlics1;27004@sunlics2;27004@sunlics3'

• Make sure you do NOT have the LM_LICENSE_FILE variable defined twice, both as a User and as a System variable. If you do, consolidate the values into a single definition, preferably as a System variable.
• Click on 'Set', then on 'Apply', then on 'OK'
