Innoveda ePD 3.1 for PC's

General Information

The installation takes place onto your local hard drive, using the copy of the installation software on the SCS xweb application repository.

A number of features in EPD 3.0 are not supported in version 3.1, Viewsim, in particular. It is advisable to keep version 3.0 on your PC, which can be used alternately with version 3.1 with the 'configurator'.

When switching between versions installed on your PC, you have to first run the 'confgurator' program associated with the version you want to run. This program is located in the installation directory of the relevant EPD version\3.1\win32\configurator.exe, where you can double-click on it to run it.

• Log in to your NT client machine as *yourself*, the same user you intend to log in as to run the application after setup.

• Begin by going to the Xweb application installation webpage:

  http:\\xweb.slac.stanford.edu

• In the list of applications that appears, find "EPD 3.1" and click on the "Click to Install" button to its right.

• After agreeing to the license terms at the bottom of the next page, the following page lists at the top "Step 1 Install Now". Click this option, ignoring the "License keys" window below that.

• On the next "File Download" page, you can choose either "Open" or "Save". The first choice is under normal circumstances th easiest. It will download the installation files and then automatically proceed to install the application. Because the "Open" option is broken at the moment, the "Save" option has to be selected. This options only downloads the installation files. You then have to go to the location where you saved the downloaded files and doubleclick on the *.exe file. This unzips the install files into a sub-Folder. After the unzipping completes, go to the new subfolder and double-click on the "setup.exe" file, which will initiate the install.

• On the next security warning page, click again on "Run", in case you chose "Open" in the previous step.

• After the installation files are downloaded to the local PC, they are unzipped automatically (if you selected 'Open' previously), and is a fairly time-consuming process.

• Finally the Mentor install program window appears, in which you select option "Install Products" and agree to the license conditions in the window following that.

• Click through the first couple of self-evident menus.

• In the 'Choose Destination Location' menu, you can 'Browse' to the local Folder you like. The installation of all the packages involves about 340 MB of disk space.

• In the 'eProduct Designer 3.1 Product Selection' menu, you can choose just the first listed of the selectable packages, "Design Entry and PCB Interface" the only group for which we have licenses.

• The local installation then commences.

• After the installation, the 'Setup Complete' menu appears. Select the 'Yes, I want to configure eProduct Designer for this computer', if you would like to configure your PC for version 3.1.

• In the 'ePD User Environment - Choose license type' menu, select 'Networked client'.

• In the 'ePD User Environment - Set License Server' menu, select Unix and specify in the box to the right: '1702@sunlics1' for the value. Click on 'Next', and 'Finish' in the following menu.

• If you do not yet have a WDIR environment variable defined, the next 'ePD User Environment - Set WDIR' menu appears, in which you can fill out the requested information. See notes below in section: Environment Variables

• In the next menu 'ePD User Environment - Start Menu', you can select the Program Folder name you would like. I like "EPD 3.1".

• The configuration then proceeds.

• This completes the local installation, except for the required environment variable settings (see below). Libraries are available in folder:

  X:\Applications\Supported\Innoveda\epd31?

A couple of environment variables should be verified at this point. As system Administrator, check the settings of certain environment variables by going to the 'start', 'settings', 'control panel', 'system', (Advanced, for Win XP) 'environment' menu.

• LM_LICENSE_FILE

  Make sure you don't have this variable set as both a system variable and a user variable in an incompatible way. If not already set correctly, set or add to the front of the exising list, the value:

  1702@sunlics1; 1702@sunlics2; 1702@sunlics3

• WDIR

  Another thing to check is that you have user environment variable 'WDIR' defined. Along with a local, writable working directory path, it should include path:
  (local installation directory)\3.1\standard
  

Switching between EPD 3.0 and 3.1

• To switch between version 3.0 and 3.1 it is necessary to run the so-called 'Configurator', as follows: In the EPD 3.1 Programs Folder menu, instead of 'Dashboard', select 'Configure eProduct Designer', select the version you want to run and continue from there.
