I did have to reverse the RX/TX and RTS/CTS lines in the adapter. For future reference, the correct connections are as follows;

Octopus RJ45   EPSC 9 Pin D   EPSC 15 Pin D

CTS  PIN 1     PIN 6 RTS      PIN 10
DSR  PIN 2     NC             NC
RX   PIN 3     PIN 2 TX       PIN 9
COM  PIN 4     PIN 5 GND      PIN 5
COM  PIN 5     PIN 5 GND      PIN 5
TX   PIN 6     PIN 3 RX       PIN 1
DTR  PIN 7     NC             NC
RTS  PIN 8     PIN 7 CTS      PIN 2

I have included the pinout of the 15 pin connector on the front of the controller in case we want to wire directly from the RJ45 receptacle to the 15 pin jack.
