7.1 GENERAL DESCRIPTION The CAMAC Serial Repeater (CSR) is a double width CAMAC module which allows the length of a CAMAC serial branch to be extended beyond the original 500ft limit. Currently up to three repeaters may be cascaded to provide a total branch length of greater than 2000ft. The repeater has two ports, one of which may be electrically isolated from the local ground and supply. The repeater receives, resynchronises and retransmits control and data packets from the MBCD and SCC modules. Packet transfer is bidirectional (half-duplex). Battery backup of the termination network supply is provided to allow operation of the CAMAC branch during temporary power loss in the local supply. With the exception of the transit delay through the repeater the operation of the CSR is basically transparent to the passage of packets between micro and the CAMAC crates. In order to drive the extended distances a modified coding of the MBCD CAMAC FPLS is used. This differs from the original coding in that the data signal remains in a tristate mode when idle rather than being driven to a logic '0' state. (The FPLS coding currently being used is identified with the checksum number '3636'.)

7.3 CONNECTORS AND TERMINATORS

7.3.1 Front panel connectors Each port has 2 MS3120E-10-6S connectors bussed together. A Signal Data + B Signal Data - C L+ D L- E Ground F Termination supply voltage (nom +4.5V)

7.3.2 Terminator A terminating network (135-543-00) is required for each port. This is normally connected directly to one of the front panel connectors on each port.
