32.4 RESPONSIBLE ENGINEER . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 32-5 CHAPTER 32 PULSED POWER OUTPUT MODULE (PPOM) This module is designed to provide a plus or minus 24 Volt pulse to a selected output, with up to one Ampere of drive current. Only one output may be selected at a time. The nominal output pulse width is

0.25 seconds. This time may be extended by issuing a repeat of the output command to the unit. The module is intended to be a modem interface to the old linac Digital Output System. New devices should use the IDOM.

32.1 MODULE SPECIFICATIONS

32.1.1 Module Width: Single.

32.1.2 Number of Output Channels: 32, (numbered 0 through 31).

32.1.3 Output Voltage: 0 unless pulsed, then +24, or -24 Volts nominal for 250 milliseconds; the return side of the load may be externally grounded.

32.1.4 Output Voltage Tolerance: -2.5 Volts for +24 Volt output, +/- 1 Volt for 0 Volt output, +2.5 Volts for -24 Volt output. ______________________________ This chapter is excerpted from TN-83-02.

PULSED POWER OUTPUT MODULE (PPOM) Page 32-2

32.1.5 Output Pulse Width: 250 +/- 25 milliseconds, unless extended by another write command to the same output, and of the same polarity. If a output is active, and the command is a repeat of the previous command, the output pulse is extended (retriggered) for 250 milliseconds from the time of the present command. The output may be cleared to zero by a clear command.

32.1.6 Output Protection: #36 wire fuse links on +/- 24 Volt sources, back-to-back 27 Volt Zener diodes from each output to ground.

32.1.7 Response Time: 100 microseconds maximum from Dataway to output.

32.1.8 CAMAC Codes, X and Q Responses:

32.1.8.1 Read Functions: - F0 A0 reads back the last F6 A0 command. X=1. Q=1 if an output pulse is still active, and both +/- 24 Volt sources and fuse links are OK. Q=0 if there is no output pulse active, or a source voltage is missing.

32.1.8.2 Write Functions: - F16 A0 causes the Signal side of one output channel to become active and pulse from 0 Volts to either +24 Volts or -24 Volts for 250 milliseconds, based on the following control word: W W|WWWW| 1 5|4321| 6 ----- -------------- P C|HANL| N|UMBR| The channel # is coded 0 through 31 in Bits W1 through W5, with W1 the LSB. Output = +24 Volts if P=0. Output = -24 Volts if P=1.

PULSED POWER OUTPUT MODULE (PPOM) Page 32-3 X=1; Q=1 if both 24 Volt sources are OK and 1) no output pulse is active, or 2) an output pulse is active and this is a repeat of the previous F16 A0 command. Otherwise, Q=0.

32.1.8.3 Command Functions: - o F9 A0 shall cause an active output pulse to terminate early. The command storage latch is also cleared (will contain channel = 0). X=1; Q=1 if an output is active, and both +/- 24 Volt sources are OK, else Q=0. o F27 A0 tests the +/- Volt sources only. X=1. Q=1 if both sources and fuse links are OK, otherwise Q=0.

32.1.8.4 Other X and Q Responses: - X=Q=0 for all other codes and conditions.

32.1.8.5 C, Z, and I: - Z*S2 shall terminate any active output. C and I have no effect on this module.

32.1.9 CAMAC Speed: The module will respond to all CAMAC cycles as defined in IEEE Standard 583-1978.

32.1.10 Power Required: o +6 Volts, 600 milliAmps typical, 1.1 Amp maximum o +24 Volts, 3 milliAmps, pulsed = 1 Amp o -24 Volts, 2 milliamps, pulsed = 1 Amp.

32.1.11 Protection: The +6 and both the 24 Volt lines are each protected with a fuse consisting of a single strand of #36 tinned copper wire. Fusing current is about 3.5 Amps.

32.1.12 Operating Temperature Range: 10 to 65 degrees Celsius.

32.2 FRONT PANEL

32.2.1 Front Panel Indicators: o "N" & "X", red LED's, o "Q" & "V", green LED's. ("V" lighted indicate both + and - 24 Volts power present.)
