18.4 RESPONSIBLE ENGINEER . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 18-7 CHAPTER 18 ISOLATED DIGITAL OUTPUT MODULE (IDOM) This unit provides 32 channels of opto-isolated output, with full control, and readback of the output condition. The unit is designed for continuous operation, but also includes a channel-selectable pulsed output mode, with independently variable pulse width. Individual outputs may be group-overwritten, selectively set or cleared, selectively pulsed (on or off), and may further control other pulsed outputs at the start or end of a pulsed output. The output width in the pulsed mode may be a pre-defined value, or may be set to a range of values using CAMAC commands. Various outputs may be responding to any of the above commands concurrently. In addition, channels to be pulsed may be preset with pulse width, channel-to- trigger number, and start/end trigger options, with the actual execution deferred. Action may be later initiated on several different channels using a selective pulse command to cause execution of the preset sequences.

ISOLATED DIGITAL OUTPUT MODULE (IDOM) Page 18-2 (Data below taken from GE specifications, at 25 degrees Celsius.) o Saturation Voltage: 1.0 Volts maximum, at 100 milliAmps Ic. o Collector-emitter Breakdown Voltage: 80 Volts minimum. o Dark Current: 100 nanoAmps maximum and Vce = 60 Volts. o Continuous safe output current: 100 milliAmps minimum, 150 milliAmps maximum.
18.1.4 Command Strings: Up to 16 commands may be stacked into the FIFO at rates up to full CAMAC DMA speeds, for serial processing by the microprocessor. Maximum response time, from Dataway command to channel output: 10 milliseconds per command, times the number of FIFO stacked commands.

Q=1 if a) the voltage on pin C9 of both output connectors is above +12 Volts, and b) the unit command input FIFO has space to accept the present command and can store that command for action; else Q=0. o F16 A0: Write the W1-16 bits to channels 0-15, bit = 1 = output on, bit = 0 = output off. o F16 A1: As above, to channels 16-31. o F17 A0: Write an output time interval to a specified channel. o W1-W5 = channel #, 0 thru 31, encoded (0 = channel 0, 31 = channel 31). o W7 = polarity, 0 = pulse off, then on; 1 = pulse on, then off, o W8 = defer, 1 = defer execution, 0 = execute immediate, o W9-W16 = time units, 1 thru 255 decimal, of the program encoded basic time interval (nominally 25 milliseconds). o F17 A1: Define a transfer channel (channel to be triggered). o W1-W5 = channel #, 0 thru 31, to initiate transfer, encoded (0 = channel 0, 31 = channel 31). o W8 = transfer polarity, 1 = transfer at the pulse start time, 0 = transfer at the end of the pulse time, of this channel, o W9-W13 = channel #, 0 thru 31, to be triggered, encoded (0 = channel 0, 31 = channel 31).

If undefined, the default is to pulse on for the default time interval. o F18 A0: Selective set channels 0-15 as defined by W1-16, bit = 1 = output on, bit = 0 = no change. o F18 A1: Selective set to channels 16-31, as above. o F19 A0: Pulse on selected channel 0-15 as defined by W1-16, bit = 1 = pulse output, bit = 0 = no change. If the output is off, it will pulse on for the defined time interval. If the output was on prior to the command, it will go off after the defined time interval. The pulse period may be set by a prior F17 A0 command. If it has not been preset, the default pulse period is used. o F19 A1: Pulse on selected channels 16-31, as above. o F21 A0: Selective clear channels 0-15 as defined by W1-16, bit = 1 = output off, bit = 0 = no change. o F21 A1: Selective clear to channels 16-31, as above. o F22 A0: Prepare software interlock to enable the checksumming of the EPROM. To enable the checksumming of the EPROM, a hexadecimal 203D must be received from this command immediately prior to receiving a F22 A1 to have the output channels 0-15 display the checksum of the EPROM. o F22 A1: Checksum the EPROM. A value of 3D20 hexadecimal must be received with a F22 A1 to checksum the EPROM and output this checksum to the channels 0-15. o F23 A0 : Pulse off selected channel 0-15 output(s), as defined by W1-16, bit = 1 = pulse output, bit = 0 = no change. If the output is on, it will pulse off for deined time interval. If the output was off prior to the command, it will go on after the defined time interval. The pulse period may be set by a prior F17 A0 command. If it has not been preset, the default pulse period is used. o F23 A1: Pulse off selected channels 16-31, as above.

18.1.6 CAMAC Speed: The module will respond to all CAMAC cycles as defined in IEEE Std. 583-1978.
18.1.7 Power Required: o +6 Volts, 2.1 Amperes maximum (1.1 Amperes typical) o +24 Volts, 4 milliamperes max (2 milliAmps typical), exclusive of J1 & J2 pins C9 loads. The total +24 Volt load could be as high as 485 milliamperes, if both J1 & 2-C9 are short-circuited to ground. The maximum +24 Volt load, without loading both -C9s below the +12 Volt 'Q-valid' threshold, is 240 milliamperes.
18.1.8 Protection: The +6 and +24 Volt lines are each protected with a fuse consisting of a single strand of #36 tinned copper wire. Fusing current is about
