"Wildcarding"

A "wildcard" throttle value is one that is set to match on any value for its tag. To set a throttle to match on the "wildcard" value, simply enter the empty string("") as a value in your setThrottle() call. The filter will note that the throttle is a wildcard and throttle status messages will have "(wildcard)" displayed in as the throttle's value.

Note that a "wildcard" only throttles messages that have a defined value for the matching tag. If a tag does not exist within a specific message, it is not throttled.

Most all messages use the "text", "facility" and "cmlogTime" tags, so these are good tags to use in case you are interested in throttling all messages.

Please read to the next section on limitations of throttling as a further guide on how to set throttles.
