General Interests:
Conception, design and realization of experimentation with particle beams.
Description of Research Interests:
My current interest is in experiments using high energy and
high quality particle beams in the study of astrophysics and
advanced accelerator concepts.
At the momment I'm pursuing the idea of combining high energy
electron and positron beams that can be made available at SLAC to
create a relativistic pair plasma. This kind of plasma is believed
to play an important role in intriguing astrophysical phenomenon such
as gamma-ray bursts, jets in AGNs, and cosmic acceleration. I have
just carried out an experiment with the E150 Plasma Lens collaboration
to demonstrate that a plasma can be used to focus not only electron but
also positron beams. This could be used to improve the luminosity at
future linear colliders. This study may also have implication for understanding the collimation of astrophysical jets which typically
streams out for many kpc wihtout dispersing.
