Overview

Before working on the site for the first time, a number of one-time preparations have to be made.  Here we seed the working folder and load the SLAC style. Either the admin or the user can perform these steps; if the admin performs these steps then the user should be present.

Setting up the Working Folder (one-time)

  1. Complete the SourceSafe installation.  Log off, then have your user login.  Open SourceSafe by selecting Start->Program Files->Microsoft Visual SourceSafe->Microsoft Visual SourceSafe 6.0.

  2. Set the working folder.  The files pulled from SourceSafe will go into this folder. You will definitely want to consult with the user about the location of this folder.  I would suggest a folder on the Desktop for convenience, but anywhere where the user can easily access on his/her own is fine.  Go to File->Set Working Folder and then create and/or select the appropriate folder.

  3. Select the folder “ARDA_WEBSITE.”

  4. In the toolbar below the menubar, find and press the button labeled “Get Latest Version;” it is depressed in the image above. Alternatively, you can select SourceSafe->Get Latest Version from the menubar.

  5. In the dialogue box that pops up, be sure to select the “Recursive” option.  Click OK. Select “Yes” whenever prompted to create a new folder. All the files in the project should now be copied into your user’s working folder.

  6. Check out “ARDA Website Template.nft” from the “ARDA_WEBSITE” folder. You can do this by right-clicking on “ARDA Website Template.nft” and selecting “Check Out” from the dropdown.

  7. After completing the NetObjects installation, launch NetObjects from your user’s NT account.  Open “ARDA Website Template” from your user’s working folder. If you encounter an Open dialogue box, you may have to change the “Files of Type” dropdown to “NetObjects Fusion Template Files (*.nft).”

  8. You should OK any alerts that appear (namely, that a Backup folder needs to be created, and that the current Style is invalid).

  9. In the NetObjects toolbar at the top of the page, click on the “Style” button.

  10. On the left side of the screen, there is a long list of the available styles.  Select any one besides “SLAC,” then select Style->Set Style.  Now scroll back down to the “SLAC” style, select it, and select Style->Remove Style From List. Confirm the removal.

  11. Select Style->Add Local Style to List... Click over to the working folder, and enter the Styles folder, then the SLAC folder.  Open the file called “Style.ssx”

  12. Select the “SLAC” style from the list, then go to Style->Set Style.

  13. Click on the “Site” button in the main toolbar, then select any page.  Check that the opened page has the ARDA website’s format.

  14. Close NetObjects.  Return to SourceSafe, and check in “ARDA Website Template.nft.” Exit SourceSafe.
