Overview
As I mentioned in the introduction, NetObjects is a high level application that lets you deal with web pages and their components as objects instead of HTML. That simplifies designing web pages while sometimes preventing you from doing exactly what you want to do.
Still, there is a very large number of things that you can do with NetObjects, too many for me to explain here. You’ll have to depend on the included help pages, on one another, and perhaps on some of the resources that have been included on the Links page.
I would highly recommend building a dummy site to become comfortable with the NetObjects basics before attempting to edit the ARDA site.
I’ll try to cover many of the basic features that you’ll need to maintain the ARDA website. I’ll be assuming that you are familiar with the basic features of SourceSafe; if not, you should take a look at the basics of using SourceSafe. It’s best to read the following topics in order, but only “General Procedures” and “Previewing and Publishing” are required reading.
Basic Topics
- General procedures for editing the ARDA website
- The main toolbar
- Site view
- Page view
- The standard toolbar
- The properties palette
- Creating new pages
- Adding/editing text on a page
- Adding/changing pictures on a page
- Working with hyperlinks
- Working with borders and MasterBorders
- Working with navigation bars and buttons
- Previewing and publishing the site
- Developing your personal website
