Overview

Assets are the name NetObjects gives to anything it cannot store directly in the NetObjects file. This includes images, Java objects, external webpage links, and e-mails.

For the most part, you don’t have to worry about assets too much.  For example, when you add a new image to a webpage, it is also automatically added to the list of assets that the website contains. Your main task is to remember to add new assets to SourceSafe.

My main use of Assets view has been to prune unused assets; there probably are other uses as well. You really shouldn’t mess with Assets view unless you are very sure about the status of the assets you intend to alter. Deleting the wrong asset could remove a picture or hyperlink used over much of the site; fixing this would be a pain.

Yes, you could rollback.  But why jump into the fire when you can avoid the frying pan altogether? Use asset view cautiously.

Working with Assets

Not all that much to add to the overview; just be very careful when working with assets.

To delete an asset, go to Assets view, then select the appropriate tab. Find and select the asset in the list, then delete either by hitting Delete on the keyboard, right-clicking and selecting “Delete <asset type>” from the dropdown, or choosing Edit->Delete <asset type>.

A rather useful feature is Assets->Verify All <asset type>.  This will tell you if all the assets of the given asset type can be found (and thus will show up in the site).
