Overview
Just about every webpage contains text, so it’s definitely important to know how to add text to a page. Fortunately, the process is very simple in NetObjects.
The basic idea is to create a text box, then add text to the text box. When managing text boxes, the main issue to consider is the width of the box; as you type, the box will automatically lengthen when you need more vertical space.
Adding and Editing Text
- Change to Page View, Page Design tab selected.
- On the standard toolbar, select the text tool.
- Somewhere in the editing window (probably in Layout but perhaps in the Border area), click and drag to create a rectangle with dotted lines. Release the mouse button to place the text box on the webpage.
- The white boxes around the text box indicate that text can be added to the box; you’ll note that your cursor becomes the text cursor when you move it into the box. You can use the text cursor as you do in any word processing application.
- To format text, such as to make it bold or to underline, use the text cursor to highlight the text you want formatted. Then bring up the properties palette with the format tab selected. Click the appropriate icons to format. You can also use the properties palette to align text, change the font, and add lists.
- Let’s say that the text box had not been selected. For example, you had added an image to the page, and now wanted to change the text in the existing text box. First, double-click on the text box to make it text-editable. Then use the text cursor to place your insertion point and edit normally.
- Why the double-click? A single-click surrounds the text box with black squares instead of white squares.
Enclosed in black squares, you cannot edit the text inside the text box, but you can edit the text box itself. Drag the black boxes to resize the text box, move the text box itself to a different location, or bring up the properties palette to change text box properties.
