Lattice Description

LER SF1 powers four of the eight SF sextupole magnets in each of arcs 7 and 9.

Each of the 6 LER arcs has eight sextupole magnets.

The four arcs not adjacent to collision straight IR2 have a somewhat similar scheme for sextupole layout. Two of these four arcs (arcs 7 and 9) have only SFs, the other two (arcs 5 and 11) have only SDs. These arcs have four sextupole families SF1,SF2,SD1 and SD2 each family powered in series for all of LER.

Within a given non-IR2-adjacent arc (say SD arc 5) each of the two families have four sextupole magnets present; better thought of as two "pairs". Each "pair" (say SD2) has it's two magnets separated by 180 degrees of betatron phase, and is accompanied by another "pair" of the same family (SD2) laid out (with the same betatron phase) in the same way. This pattern is also the layout of the other family (SD1) as well but at 90 degrees betatron phase from the SD2s such that the SD1s and SD2s all differ in phase by 90 degrees. The SD2s are stronger than the SD1s due to the betatron phase of the interaction point focusing magnets.

The same can be said about the sextupole layout in SF arcs 7 and 9.
