Lattice Description

LER VK2L is a vertical steering magnet near the interaction point.

It is a little unusual that a steering magnet has an "LGPS" designation. For several of the steering magnets near the IP the LGPS designation comes from the fact that their steering function is combined with a modeled deflection. This is the case in LER IR2 for the VK2, HK1, and VCOR1 magnets.

This category of magnet has "dual database" where one magnet type (LGPS for the modeled bending) shares a physical magnet and power supply with another magnet type (XCOR or YCOR for steering). "Dual database" magnets have software complications outside the scope of this document.

For the VK2 magnets, the modeled bending arises as a compliment to the BV1 dipoles (the inboard set of IR2 vertical bends) such that VK2 is a "soft bend" addition to BV1. The addition of the soft bend allows the synchrotron radiation from BV1 to be directed away from the interaction point.
