LER BV1,L,2,2L comprises the LER IR2 vertical bending scheme.
LER straight 2 is not straight, nor is it flat. The vertical bending scheme arises from the need to deflect the LER from above the HER in arcs 1 and 3 down to the HER elevation in order to overlap the HER at the IP.
Starting after the exit of of arc 3 and simultaneous with the horizontal bending, the LER beam is first bend down by the BV2 magnet at z=-49m before the IP. This downward trajectory continues until the LER has reached the vertical height of the HER at z=-9.8m from the IP at which point BV1 magnet deflects the beam back upwards such that it is nominally vertically parallel to HER and at the HER height. After the IP, the vertical course back up to arc 1 (by the BV1L and BV2L magnets)is a mirror of the course down from arc 3.
