Hotel and Motel Accomodations

21 January, 1997

There are a large number of hotel and motel rooms in the Stanford area, but at the present time, due to the rapid growth of the local economy, there are often extremely few rooms that are actually available on short notice. Notify the Workshop organizers at SLAC if you have any special requirements.

Rooms at two local motels have been set aside for Workshop participants. To reserve one of these rooms, please fax the number indicated giving your credit card number including expiration date and spell out your name exactly as on the credit card. Indicate whether you want a "smoking" or a "non-smoking" room. Mention the confirmation number below and/or "SLAC Workshop Group" and the dates you want to reserve. Please be aware that the rooms are set aside only for the nights of March 3 (Monday night) through March 6 (Thursday night), so if you want to arrive earlier or leave later you should reserve as soon as possible. The motel should fax you back a confirmation.

Please also let the Workshop organizers know (by email) of your reservation--so at the last moment we can release any untaken rooms.

If you do not have a credit card that is valid in the U.S.A., please indicate your housing needs to the Workshop organizers.

If you want to see the locations of a specific hotel or motel on a map, try MapQuest on the Web at URL http://www.mapquest.com/.

Creekside Inn (Best Western) 3400 El Camino Real, Palo Alto (west side of El Camino Real, between Page Mill Rd. and Matadero Ave., closer to Matedero Ave.). Phone: 415/493-2411. FAX: 415/493-6787. This is a large, well-appointed and well-run motel with all facilities, including a 24-hour desk. Most of the rooms are set back from the busy El Camino Real. It has a popular restaurant, Frescos. Both the motel and the restaurant are frequently used by physicists visiting SLAC. The location is about 5 miles (8 km) south of SLAC, perhaps 15 minutes by car. See the Transportation page for additional information on bus service.

Rates are $85 per night for a queen size bed (a fairly large bed that sleeps 2). There is no extra charge for a partner, but if you want a different combination of beds, please indicate this to the motel (which may change the rates slightly). Breakfast is not included.

Cancellation policy: 4 pm date of arrival.

Confirmation number to mention: CG0000 (or just "SLAC Workshop Group").

Mermaid Inn, 727 El Camino Real, Menlo Park (west side of El Camino Real, between Roble Ave. and Middle Ave.). Phone: 415/323-9481. FAX: 415/323-0662. This is a smaller motel, both in number of rooms, size of rooms, and to match this the various appointments are more limited. There is no restaurant, but there are several restaurants within easy walking distance. The rooms are a little noisier than at Country Inn. This motel is popular with physicists visiting SLAC looking to minimize costs. The location is right on the busline to SLAC which is 2 miles (3 km) away, at the most 10 minutes by car. See the Transportation page for additional information on bus service.

Rates are $52 per night for a queen size bed (a fairly large bed that sleeps 2).

Cancellation policy: 72 hours prior to date of arrival.

Confirmation number to mention: no special number, so just "SLAC Workshop Group."

Special requests or problems notify Jym Clendenin at clen@slac.stanford.edu.
