The newly discovered state found by BaBar decaying to Ds pizero is apparently a c sbar p-wave state, although its mass is far from what theorists had predicted.  This leads us to a re-examination of models for mesons made of one light quark and one heavy quark.  These systems are analogous to the hydrogen atom, but with the fine structure and hyperfine structure enhanced.  A rather general analysis can be done without resorting to detailed numerical calculations.  It shows that it will be hard to explain simultaneously the spectrum of Ds states and their decay patterns.
