As the study of flavor physics is entering a phase where one
is searching for possible small deviations from the standard model 
rather than for dramatic signatures of new physics, it becomes important to revisit 
the theoretical predictions for inclusive decay rates and their 
uncertainties. In this talk I discuss the present status of theory 
and experiment and show results on a global fit to all currently available data.
