RPC Photon Beam Meeting Summary 4/17/02 Attendees: W. Olson, R. Arnold, S. DeBarger, R. Erickson, D. Walz Items Discussed: 1. The SLC arc power supply can be configured to supply enough power to the dump magnets for any dump angle. 2. A meeting has been set for Monday April 22nd to determine the beam-dump angle. Various bend angles were discussed, but the conclusion depends on the location of C37 and the sweep magnet. E. Jensen will be enlisted to make layouts showing how far down-beam C37 and the sweep magnet can realistically be placed. Ray will continue to look at the physics implications of the different beam angles under discussion. 3. Roger and Scott identified the likely sweep magnet candidate as B34. It is capable of 51 KG-M at 1000 amps. The current set of cables would carry the load if they were in the open. Since they're in cable trays with other cables, an additional pair of cables will have to be pulled to safely carry the 1000 amps. 4. Ray needs the position of the first two dump magnets defined before he can design the ION detectors properly. 5. Dieter and Bruno are designing the beam dump toroids. 6. The dump collimator was discussed. It will be water-cooled and approximately 20 radiation lengths long. The aperture can't be determined until the beam dump angle is defined. This also affects the wire array design. 7. Funding is available to wind the dump magnet coils. Winding will start as soon as the coil-winding machine is available; probably in June. Bill Olson
