Real Photon Collaboration Engineering Meeting 7/9/02 Minutes Attendees: R Erickson, K Griffioen, A Kacharovsky, L Keller, M Olson, W Olson, S Rock, S St.Lorant, J Weisend, C Wilder Items Discussed: 1. A Kacharovsky has been named and accepted responsibility for E-160 cabling. He will contact the experimenters and create a cable list for the E-160 experiment. 2. CDR action items were handed out and discussed. 3. L Keller mentioned that P Bosted's CDR presentation didn't have the upstream LASS mirror plate. All models of the magnet configuration have had both mirror plates. Lew will check into this inconsistency. 4. L Keller said there is a 12,000-pound axial load on the LASS wedge. He will identify all forces on the magnet system. 5. Saint had questions on the wire array being in the beam all the time, since it failed in E-158. It was pointed out that the power level in the Real Photon experiments is an order of magnitude less, and that the wire array is needed in the line as a continuous beam diagnostic. 6. R Erickson reported that AIP is officially closed until October 2003. However, some work can be done, as people are available. Decisions Reached 1. See item 1. New Action Items 1. L Keller will identify all forces on the magnet system, and confirm the magnet configuration. Ongoing Action Items 1. T. Weber will get prices for cast copper and tin. 2. P. Bosted to determine material to be in front of the middle spectrometer detector panel. (In progress) 3. J. Weisend will work with D. Crabb and R. Principe to develop a detailed drawing showing the dilution refrigerator and the proposed superconducting magnet. 4. P. Bosted will continue the physics simulations of the proposed change to the RPC design. (In progress) 5. The interaction of the LASS magnet and all its iron with the E161/ E159 7-T target magnet needs to be carefully modeled using a 3-D field simulation. (In progress) 6. Serious engineering of the shielding and earthquake supports associated with the LASS magnet must be started. 7. T. Weber will investigate other E160 target materials to replace the Pb and Au for example Tantalum or Platinum. (In progress) W. Olson
