Present: Peter Bosted, Keith Griffioen, Bill Olson, Steve Rock Beam: Copper for dump magnets to arrive Jan. 9. Two designers working on layout, vacuum chambers, stands. Funding still uncertain. E. Prinz from Radiation group started to look into rad. safety. Simulation of spent electron detectors ongoing. E161 Target: Met with Oxford last week. The 18.5 cm warm bore NMR magnet is the closst they have to matching our neds. We need to keep at least 1.3 m from iron to keep forces low enough (<100 kG). This makes acceptance for E161 using 29D36 too low: better off without it. E160 Spectrometer: Found good idea to put some absorber in D3. 2 m of graphite seems good, but will study other options. Dylan at UCLA now has simulation program: learning how to run it. E161 Spectrometer: resolutions slightly worse without 29D36, but acceptance larger. Peter plans to make full study including muons from secondary hadrons (biggest worry). Detectors: 5 crates arrived at WM. Seem to be ok. Student working on testing them out. Size for E161 and E160 may well be compatible, according to Peter's latest studies. Singles rates much lower than before. Coll. Meeting: Discussed who will come and what work can be expected realistically by Jan. 11 (not much).
