Attending: Perry Anthony, Peter Bosted, Keith Griffieon, Steve Rock, Bill Olson CDR. Assignments passed out last Tue. Try to finish all items by Aubg. 6. Next Collaboration Meeting: in late Oct. at WM. Discussed list of things to do for E160: a) backgrounds from C37 and DC2 collimators Jennifer and John, then ? b) optimization of beam pipe, shielding down-beam of LASS Ray, c) how thick layer of Al to put between detector subplanes Peter, Keith, students d) Simulate 10 spills with Geant into a real tracking program: see how high luminosity can handle Steve, Peter e) Calculate how much shielding needed from SEQ backsplash Peter, Stan f) see if muons pairs sensitive to linear polarization Tigran g) see how weel can measure Sigma for open charm. How to idenity open charm in E160 setup? (two muons?) Steve h) simulate separation of coherent, elastic, and inelastic. Keith, Miao E161: Steve has a new TN on muons from pi, K decay. Finds higher rates than proposal. Peter will check. Makes hard to detect open charm with 2 muons. Compton Polarimeter: Peter met with Yerevan guys. Some progress being made in detector design. Still investigating backgrounds, and whether or not gammas can be detected in coincidence. Tigran N. has arrived at SLAC and will work on this over next month. Mainz has built a Compton polarimeter to measure circular polarization, using the transmission technique. Good for continuous relative polarzation measurements: not suited for measuring absolute pol., or value at coherent peak (since integrates over photons). Update on beamline work: I have another conflict this morning, and will be unable to attend this meeting. I can report some progress, however. The three cranes in the BSY have been repaired and are now back in service. The B-Line B34 dipole (which we plan to use for the sweeping magnet) has been rigged out of the BSY and moved to the Heavy Fab Bldg. The dump line collimator and toroid have been removed from the BSY, and the large dump-line vacuum chamber (that reached from the last dump magnet to the collimator) has been rigged out and is sitting on the floor inside the main BSY entrance. -Roger Erickson
