Attending: Perry Anthony, Peter Bosted, Don Crabb, Keith Griffieon, Steve Rock Beam Line: Ray has optimized detectors in 1st two dump magnets. Wants to have about 100 cells. Ray is O.K. with 4" collimator in front of dump, if old one can be resurected. Need to take it out on next access. Wire array can be made 4" wide if ned be. Number of wires will remain at 96 in any case. So total ADC count for beam line is about 192. We decided to build a new collimator in front of D2, rather than use old one. It will have pin-cusion on front. Deiter will have it drawn up. It will be water-cooled W. The inner hole will be about 6 mm radius. E160 Spectrometer: Peter worked more on simulations. Looks like 1.4 m long wedge, with graphite between D3 and LASS, give best overall performance. GEANT now speeded up: still need to put 3D field model in (have been doing 3D modeling with d3spect which is faster). Ray will optimize beam pipe shielding in vicinity of detectors. Size of detectors remains about same as in January. 3D field doens't meke needed y granularity smaller, so can keep wider fingers there. Steve Guertin (UCLA) is looking into x granularity needed. Keith will start looking into layouts very soon. E161 Simulations: Steve Rock working with new Herwig: finding some confusions. Compton Polarimeter: Peter did more studies: lighter targt (Li, Be) helps if pol. high enough, but even with Fe can make good measurements in 10 minutes, if simulations are correct. Has sent to Yerevan to see if agees with their simulations. Basic idea is to detect only e+ or e-, and not try to make coincidences with photons. Collaboration Meeting: June 3. Need to make draft agenda.
