Present: Peter Bosted, Keith Griffioen, Sebastian Kuhn E161 Target: Oxford cost estimate has gone up considerably, esp. due to cost of dipole to reverse pol. direction. Possible discussion with Oxford at SLAC in November. More detailed cost estimate (realistic) in progress. Can an parameters be relaxed? Sebastian suggested joint project with Hall B at Jlab on Frozen spin target. Don thinks photon beam heating would be a problem. Peter worried about scheduling difficulties. Doesn't seem very practical. Peter brought up idea of using the E143 target (currently in Hall C at Jlab). This is ideally suited to E159. Product of f*P_t with NH3 or ND3 at 5T about 2/3 of LiD at 6.5 T, so would have larger error bar for E161, to first oder. But, don't have corrections for D and Li6 if use almost pure protons in Nh3, so theoretically cleaner. Another idea is to use Sepp's magnet. How would small opening affect E159? How high in field can it go? Detectors: Keith preparing to set up gluing tests at WM. Sebastian will review the proposed E160 design. Spectrometer: Sebastian Kuhn is working on modeling LASS with 2 m of magnitized iron. Pt resolution is about 0.1 (adequate) and hadronic punch-through very low, so may be able to run at higher luminosity than in proposal. Collaboration Meeting: now on E160 page. Keith needs to finish getting rest of talks.
