Present: Peter Bosted, Keith Griffioen, John Weisend, Bill Olson, Don Crabb E161 Target: Money for 2nd EIO tube *may* become available from UVA: descussions in progress. Budget for E160. M+S and manpower now included in Bill Olson's budget. Not counting DAQ/Fast Electronics, the budgt is about 600K for the Photon beam, and 400K for E160 spectrometer and detectors. Need to add Compton Polarimeter, coils for A-line magnets, and some other items. Keith mentioned that most of labor at WM can be absorbed into his grant. E160 Target: memo now changed to include 0.3 mm tolerance and hole target, making project a bit more difficult. Hole target may be on it's own mover at different z location. Agreed that 10 sec to move between adjacent targets reasonable (max 90 minutes between extreme targets). Spectrometer: Peter has been working on desing: found a wrong parameter in GEANT model from Piotr that was giving too high rates. Now looks like 14 mm diameter pipe with increasingly large amounds of W as a function of z can give reaonable rates. Peter finds W is 3 times better than lead for the shieling. He also finds putting alumina in D3 is much better for pion rates than having aluminum. Resolution is slightly worse. Aline: Lew Keller finds 6 deg. bend is o.k. to dump (muon flux still low enough). Finds two sweeping magnets totalling 50 kG-m needed. Compton Polarimeter: Keith and Ross Hicks/Jeff Shaw indepently find that linear pol. cannot be measured with this device. Peter enphasized still want to include in E160 budget, so can measure photon spectrum and to check circular polarization for E161.
