Minutes of E159/E160/E161 Meeting Dec 4, 2000 Phone conference with Steve Rock, Ray Arnold, Peter Bosted, Done Crabb, and Keith Griffioen 1) Steve and Ray will try to get hold of official letters of approval for the three experiments, to send to NSF. Don Crabb also needs them for funding reasons. 2) Ray will help Don get in touch with Steve St. Lorant to talk about procurement issues for the target. Ray will be meeting with Steve Williams on Tuesday: will discuss how procurement of these long term items can get started. 3) Don brought up issue of having a dipole component to the target magnet so polarization reversals of LiD can be done much more quickly, and also allow some running in the transverse mode. We agreed this was a good idea, especially if the increase in cost is modest (not double), and it doesn't have a big impact on delivery time. 4) We discussed the scintillator planes for E160/61. Peter will continue to work on a design that uses the same set of fingers, but probably in a different physical arrangement. He is also looking into the option of having both dipoles in E161, and in E160. Keith has got some cost estimates on new scintillator. It seems the main cost is not the material, but the cutting and polishing. Peter talked to George Igo about the possibility of a substantial number of hodoscopes (1/3 or 1/2) being built as UCLA, as they want a "substantial" project, and have done this kind of work before. 5) Peter will talk to the S. Africans to see if they really have something valuable to contribute to the collaboration. 6) Keith will make an e-mail server for the entire program, with flags that allow each member to get messages for any of the experiments, or all of them.
