Present: Peter Bosted, Keith Griffioen, Sebastian Kuhn, Perry Anthony, Ray Arnold, John Weisend E161 Target: Don is at a conference, and reported seeing field map data on a magnet like the one we now proose to buy from Oxford. The field uniformity was 10-5 as adverstised. John is in the mean-time investigating getting other bids from the National Magnet Lab. Lass test: everything almost ready. Magnet has ben run to 500 A. Field mapping will be done tomorrow up to 2700 A. E161 Spectrometer; TN by Sbastian Kuhn has ben updated. Design now has about 1.8 m of iron, at 19 kG. Resolution somewhat worse than proposal, but more iron so hit rates are lower. The Pt resolution is proportional to pt (ie dPt/Pt=const of about 0.2). Preliminary results of smearing signal and background with this resolution seem encourageing. E160 Spectrometer. Peter is investigating a new design that would use D3 with no alumina, followed by LASS with 1.8 m of iron. Advantages are more signal, less background, better resolution, and detectors similar to E161. Overall, less overhead in going from E160 to E161. Drawback: singles rates from decay muons will increase: Peter will check soon to see if this is a problem.
