Minutes SLAC-ALTAS TDAQ Meeting 10-Aug-2006 ------------------------------------------- Present: Stephen (phone), Sarah, Steffen, Amedeo, Su Dong, Rainer Stephen: Just released version DetCommon 0.0.1, now with AtlasCore 2.0.2, will be part of release 12.0.2, which is being built now. Preparing to install at remote sites, including Point 1. Located the person to actually do this (Emile?). All Java issues from last week fixed by someone. There is a question about classification of dual-use, expecting some feedback on this through HN. Next: see that DetCommon will be built automatically. Talk to package coordinators to get some test applications that can run in the nightly every time. Sort out some loose ends. Sarah: RunControl problems from last week are fixed. Now have the ability to use IPC in DbProxy. Essentially the functionality is there. Sorting out the best way to use the interface, i.e. which functions to implement. Looking at ERS now. Believe that the switch will be straight-forward, even for the exception handling. Amedeo: By Monday morning expect to have all IPC and ERS and will have the proxy committed to CVS. Main concern now is what to do with Oracle. Right now DbProxy implements the MySQL protocol. Not clear if CORAL/COOL provide a server-side interface at all. (Should find out for next week.) It doesn't seem the right solution to reverse-engineer the Oracle protocol. Everything but this is under control. Suggest to give feedback in the talk on Monday stating that DbProxy would have a strong preference for running against MySQL at Point 1. Authentication already is version dependent. It's the only part that depends on MySQL shared lib, because of the password scrambling. There is the option of a "translator" on the server side, using the Oracle (or other) client API for reading, plus the known MySQL server interface for writing on the DbProxy side. This would make the unit of translator+DbProxy+HLT technology indendepenent to the outside. This may be the best compromise. The other obvious option is to require a MySQL server or replica, but that may conflict with other demands. Steffen: As announced, 4 machines installed with SL4 (bbt-dev100,1,2,3). Gbit ethernet interconnect. Feedback welcome! Will move these to IR2 some time in the down (~September). Amedeo might use them, after DbProxy is committed, to redo bandwitdth test that were previously done with 100 Mbit. Su Dong: Plan to jump-start the Tier-2: See what can be done before the Tier-2 hardware will show up in December. Borrowing O(10) TB of disk from BaBar should already make for a workable setup, Could probably use SLAC central machines, but will have to clarify all the particulars. Goal is the October Physics Jamboree at LBNL. Want to get participants to sign up ahead of time for getting SLAC user accounts. Environment has to be prepared, and use rehearsed by ourselves. There is also the issue about running parallel releases. Stephen will try to research this for next week. Next week: After the reports, will come back to discussing the EF projects suggested by Andrea for SLAC involvment and try to make a pick. As always, post corrections/comments as a follow up.
