ATLAS Tracking Upgrade Simulations Contact: Rich Partridge The SLAC ATLAS group is involved in designing the detector upgrade needed when the LHC beams increase in intensity. One aspect of this work is simulating the performance of possible upgrade designs for the tracker, which is used to measure the trajectories of charged particles that originate in the proton-proton collisions at the LHC. SLAC has developed a suite of Java-based software tools to simulate proton-proton collisions in the detector, and is the process of using these tools to compare various tracker design options. We are looking for a student to assist in carrying out these simulations and/or developing additional simulation tools that may be needed. This project requires prior programming experience, preferably in Java.
