Dear all, you can find below a short summary of today's meeting. Please let me know if there are mistakes and if I forgot to mention any important item. Thanks, cheers Fabiola --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Minutes of the Shower Parametrization (SP) meeting held on 4/7/2006 ================================================================== *** Andrea summarized the work made so far (mainly by A.Waugh). Showers in all EM calorimeters (EM barrel, EM end-cap, first section of FCAL) are parametrized using G4Flash. No attempt has been made to parametrize EM showers in Tilecal, HEC and FCAL2/3. The scope and need for the parametrization of hadronic showers are not clear today given that the CPU is dominated by the EM component. First validation results have been presented by A.Waugh at the LAr week on 19 June. They show significant gain in CPU compared to full sim., and in general good agreement between SP and full sim. *** Fabiola proposed to continute the validation work started by A.Waugh by looking first at single particles (electrons, pions) at various energies and rapidities and then at full events (Z--> ee, di-jets, minimum-bias) using Release 12.0.1 and following Releases. This work should allow us to find problems (if any), improve the parametrization (if needed) and tune the parameters, define the details of the geometry and energy ranges where the parametrization is worth using, etc. The goal is to complete the above work (Phase 1) by the next Trigger & Physics week (30 October - 2 November). Phase 2, to be carried out with the Combined Performance, Trigger and Physics groups, will address the scope of SP, and more in general our simulation strategy in view of data taking: i.e. which physics channels and trigger studies will be based on SP and which ones on ATLFAST or full sim. *** Decisions: -- All datasets of CSC Sample A will be simullated also in SP mode. This will provide lots of single particles and physics samples for the validation. -- Hold bi-weekly phone meetings on Tuesday at 17:00 (Geneva time) alternating with the Physics Validation meeting. Hence the next two SP meetings will be held on 25 July and 8 August. -- In a few months from now, when the SP validation work will be more advanced, this group can be absorbed in the Physics Validation group run by D.Costanzo. *** Everybody: send suggestions to Fabiola about who should organize SP meetings and overview the activity *** Everybody: let Fabiola know on which item(s) you want to work.
