How to get there
Coming from CERN, pass through Saint Genis all the way till you hit
Rue de Lyon. Turn right on to Rue de Lyon towards Sergy, and go for a
hundred meters to the next round-about. Exit the round-about to the
left, still toward Sergy. Follow the road going slowly down the hill
and making a left bend with the meadow on your right. Just before the
road turns right again into the woods, you see Rue du Jura on your
left. Notice the 30 zone sign. Make a left into Rue du Jura, go over
the little round-about and right (the only way). Follow the street
straight across another (seemingly pointless) round-about. At the end
you see a large apartment building straight ahead.
The building has two entrances, ours is the second one called
No19J.
Parking
There are a few visitor spaces to the right of the entrance. You see
a rental car parked there just now. We are asked to leave these spots
to visitors unless you are just dropping off or picking up someone or
something.
The parking spot for the apartment is on the left side of the house.
Ours is the fourth spot from the front. In the picture, it is the
only one that is still free. The parking is marked
46 on the ground, although the color is almost washed
away.
Connecting to the Internet
- Find the network named "SLAC-apt-1"
- Select "WEP Password" for security
- Password is "12345543216789009876123321"
- To reset password connect to modem with Ethernet cable, go to http://192.168.1.1 (user:admin, pwd:admin) and change Wireless settings
Entrance
Enter the apartment through the entrance labeled No19J.
On your left you see the mail boxes. In case you are visiting, the
door bell is the third button from the bottom. The mail box that
belongs to the apartment is the bottom right.
The building manager is M. BERTRAND. His mailbox is the top left and
his door bell the second one from the top.
Inside the building on the ground floor you see two doors on your
left. The apartment is behind the second one, right in front of the
stairs.
Note, the door lock has a common french design. To close the door,
from the outside or the inside, turn the handle all the way
up to a vertical position and then back.
Inside the apartment
The patio
The bathroom
There are two appliances installed in the bathroom. A washing machine
on the left, and a freezer on the right.
The carpenter has meanwhile installed a glass shield between the
bathtub and the sink. On our request, there is also now a hook to put
the shower head (although it is too low).
The carpenter replaced the doors on the cabinet under the sink because
it was damaged by water spills. We need to take care not to drown the
room.
Utility Meters and Shutoffs
The electricity meter, the main breaker and individual circuit
breakers are inside the apartment, in the closet to your right as you
enter the apartment.
Water and gas meters are in the lobby.
Directly across from the apartment front door
are three closets. Water meter and shutoff valve are in the leftmost
closet, and gas meter and valve are in the middle closet. Our service
is at the bottom of three in each case.
The basement
To get to the basement, go down the stairs and open the door on the
right. The storage room that belongs to the apartment is on the far
left end behind the wall opposite the door you came in. It is the
right one of the two adjacent doors that can be seen in the picture.
The second key opens the storage unit. It is currently rather full.
House rules
Sheets and Towels
Each party has their own set of sheets and towels.
They are all in different colors.
Here are the ones that are currently there:
- Dark blue/blue stripe pattern: Rainer (the one shown in the picture)
- Light blue/stripe pattern: Su Dong
- Brown: Charlie
If you don't have a set yet, you need
- Drap Housse (fitted sheet): 160cm x 200cm

- Taie d'Oreiller (pillow covers, one or two): 65cm x 65cm
- Protege Matelas (mattress cover): 160cm x 200cm
There are two brands you can find at the Migros in Val Thoiry,
Winny and Influx. Pick a new color and a new
design and enter it here.
Please remove your sheets and towels before you leave.
Trash
The garbage from the entire complex is collected from a place near the
entrance to the residence. There is a shack with various bins near
the round-about close to Rue Sergy. (This is a little bit of a walk.
Other residents seem to use to drop their garbage on the way out.)
Trash is separated into
- Paper, cardboard, etc.: Yellow container
- Aluminum and glass, etc.: Blue container
- Plastic bottles, etc.: Green container
- Everything else, i.e., non-recycables: Black containers inside the shack.
Garbage collection appears to be on Friday mornings.
Need to check this list.
