D.G. Brown, M.J. Browne, D.R. Bernstein, E.L. Cisneros, A.E. Gromme, B.H. Roster, D.R. Thompson, C.K. Yee

A new timing system for PEP II at SLAC that provides high stability triggers (50pS) and RF (1 deg. phase stability @ 476 MHz) for BPMs, RF Hardware, Diagnostic Hardware, Detector Electronics as well as Longitudinal and Transverse Feedback Hardware is described. Functional requirements and specifications are given as well as a description of the system architecture, cable layouts, etc. The technical aspects of the major components, such as the Fiducial Generator, RF Distribution Chassis, Timing, Phase Lock and Distribution Chassis (TPLD) and PEP Programmable Delay Unit (PPDU) are given. The relationship between the LINAC timing, injection fiducials that are synchronous to the LINAC timing and the PEP II ring fiducials that are synchronous to the PEP ring frequency are discussed. Finally, actual system operational performance is reported.
