As part of the High Intensity Proton Injector (IPHI) project, a 5-MeV RFQ is now under construction. This CW proton accelerator is designed for a proton current up to 100-mA. Its theoretical transmission is greater than 99%. Some of the goals are : verifying the design codes, gaining fabrication knowledge, understanding beam operation, measuring output beam characteristics, and learning how to minimize beam trip occurrence. A cold model has been built to develop the tuning process of the RFQ. We report on design calculations, RF measurements and fabrication with the reception of the pre-prototype.
