A perspective on the leading physics issues which confront high energy physics. A brief review of the current facilities and those in the construction phase and in the R&D/planning phase. Consideration of the need for forward-looking, advanced accelerator R&D -- the ideas that are needed if we are to extend the field of accelerator-based physics well into this century.
