The main problem is that in order to use multicast on the LAN is it first necessary to configure the appropriate routers and switches for each additional multicast group. Sending out traffic on a multicast group which is not configured can easily bog down all of the subnet involved and the routers connected to that subnet.
In the future, depending on demand, we will most likely establish a registry of multicast groups and use that registry to set up the configurations. However, we wish to proceed cautiously because even such a registry would not protect the network from rogue multicasters.
