Trigger crate/board power measurements ====================================== Measured at teststand mostly with DCC connected (ie. clock running), but interface cables are not connected so that no data activity. +5V -5V +12V -12V Power Empty crate 4 2 0.2 0.2 30W DCC 1 3 0.2 0.0 20W DCC+Crate 4 5 0.3 0.2 55W GLT 2 0 0 0 5-10W GLT+GLTi(new) 3 0 0 0 10-15W Old TSF 8 1 0 0 40W Old TSF+TSFi 9 1-2 0 0 55W BLT+BLTi 3 0 0 0 20W ZPD+ZPDi 5 0 0 0 25W TSF+TSFi 2 1 0 0 15W (new 3-chip) IR2 TSFX crate 181 33 1.7 0 1105W (1105-55)/16=66 IR2 TSFY crate 86 18 0.9 0 538W ( 538-55)/8 =60 IR2 BLT/PTD 100 5 0.2 0.0 527W TSF "activity" 10-15W per board New TSF full board + TSFi ~15+5=20W at rest +15W activity=35W +5V -5V => New TSFX crate = 35*16 + 55 = 615W * 1.5 = 920W 68 37 New TSFY crate = 35*8 + 55 = 335W * 1.5 = 503W 36 21 New BLT/ZPD crate = (20+15 + 8*(25+15) + 55)*1.5 = 615W 74 5 The request sent to Ray for the power: Hi Ray, I made some measurements of new and old board power consumptions and came up with some reasonably conservative estimates. The main difficulty is how much extra power is consumed when things are all connected and running. I used the old TSFs as a gauge: Running at IR2: ~65-70W per TSF/TSFi pair At rest - No cables: ~55W " The running activity appears to be a not so large a fraction, but I cannot use this ratio for new boards as the DC consumption is lower for new boards. So conservatively I just add 15W activity per board. The crate itself + DCC is ~ 35W+20W=55W, but is 35W everything for a crate itself ? (transformers, monitors, fans etc. ? or is there hidden power not shown in the monitor ? The electrician's test for the Lab. last time seemed to indicate there is a black hole which doesn't show.) Here are the estimates: New TSFX crate: --------------- TSF+TSFi DC at rest 16*20W activity 16*15W crate+DCC 55W ------ 615W *1.5 safety margin => 920W New TSFY crate: --------------- TSF+TSFi DC at rest 8*20W activity 8*15W crate+DCC 55W ------ 335W *1.5 safety margin => 500W New BLT+ZPD crate: ------------------ BLT+BLTi 1*35W ZPD+ZPDi at rest 8*25W activity 8*15W crate+DCC 55W ------ 410W *1.5 safety margin => 615W So this is a total of ~2KW. However, I am no sure I fully accounted the "dark energy" not showing in the crate monitor meters. Su Dong The eventual solution is to put all 3 crates on one breaker for 30A on 208V which is ~6KW.
