Basic Information for New Comers to Trigger System ================================================== Last update: Su Dong Feb/10/2005 !!! Welcome to the trigger group !!! The main sources of information are all available from the trigger system main web page: http://www.slac.stanford.edu/BFROOT/www/Detector/Trigger/ A) The basic introduction to the system: Most of the relevant information are under the "Documentations" section of the trigger web page. Breaking things up into different levels of details: a) top level: BaBar NIM paper trigger section (on the trigger main page "doc" section) This is the best summary of the whole system before the DCZ upgrade. b) intermediate level: From other links in the trigger main web page "doc" section: 1) IEEE papers on DCT design and EMT design/performance. 2) For documentations on the Drift Chamber Trigger upgrade: From trigger main page, follow the top tab for [Level-1 upgrade], then "Trigger upgrade Final Design Review page" to examine some of the top level documents for an overview. c) detailed: level: 1) Remaining links in the trigger main web page "doc" section: 1.1) "Kirsten report" for DCT+GLT implentation (old system but TSF/BLT/GLT still largely apply). 1.2) Stephen Gerig's thesis on original trigger design studies 2) For the DCT upgrade, check the FDR page as in b).3). 3) Under the "LINKS" section -> L1 subsystem links for EMT, GLT, IFT and upgrade DCT -> L3 trigger -> Other Trigger Doc & Link: a full set of preliminary/final design review web pages for the old pre-DCT upgrade system. B) Sign up to E-mail lists and hypernews: a) The trigger BFMAIL list This is the largest lists including all people interested in trigger system so that the most general announcements typically go on here. To subscribe to this list, please check under the "communications" section of the trigger page there is an item for "BFMAIL: substription/usgae instructions". b) The trigger Hypernews: The main trigger related hypernews links are listed under the "communications" section: Trigger operations: Current system operations Trigger software/software-trigger: Trigger software / Level-3 discussions / BGfilter discussions / trigger analysis software etc. L1 Simulation Upgrade: L1 simulation upgrade and associated trigger software technical discussions. c) Hyprenews usage tip: In case of need to post plots to hypernews, please avoid using you owner web page pointers (www.slac.stanford.edu/~username/*) as these tend to get broken easily from your cleaned up later or if you leave BaBar. You can either use the weekly trigger meeting directories, or your hypernews auxilliary directory (typically of the form e.g. $BFROOT/doc/HyperNews/hndocs/aux/auxvol03/username) to ensure the archive will not be broken. C) Safety related procedures: The requirements: 1) Everyone needs to complete the office JHAM (signed by BaBar/SLAC PIs) 2) For taking shift and performing any systems tasks at IR2 needs to complete the IR shifter JHAM (signed by Run coordinator) 3) Any work related to L1 hardware at IR2 or Lab needs to complete the trigger system JHAM (signed by Su Dong or Rainer) There is also a general safety guide (and other hardware tips) on the trigger web page operations section safety row. D) Meetings: There are 3 regular weekly trigger meetings: a) Tuesday 2:00pm Trigger operations meeting b) Friday 11:00am Level-3 meeting c) Thursday 9:00am L1 simulation meeting The meeting agenda and material are posted at: a) main page -> Trigger meetings and presentations (Top tab [meetings]) b) main page -> Level 3 Software Trigger (Top tab [Level-3 Trigger]) E) Information on operations and software & computing access: From trigger main web page top tabs: a) Trigger Operations: trigger operations page this contains many online operations and monitoring instructions b) Trigger Software: Trigger software documentations page This contains instructions on how to run the various trigger software plus various other useful general information on data samples, detector geometry, software tools etc. c) For trigger related disk accesss, please check the trigger software page -> Trigger Disks and Data samples section Please let me know if there are incorrect/out of date information in this note, or anything else important I should include.
